Hong Kong International Literary Festival 2025

In March 2025, author Pim Wangtechawat returned to the Hong Kong International Literary Festival for a series of events celebrating her acclaimed debut novel, The Moon Represents My Heart, and the possibilities of speculative fiction.

Wangtechawat presented a solo talk, The Moon Represents My Heart, where she discussed the inspiration behind her debut novel, its exploration of memory, family, identity, and time travel, and the research that informed its multi-generational story. She also reflected on her journey to publication and the creative process of blending speculative fiction with deeply human and emotional storytelling.

As part of the festival programme, Wangtechawat also joined fellow authors Kevin Chong, Yeoh Jo-Ann, and Naz Kutub for the panel discussion, "Exploring the Boundaries of Speculative Fiction." Together, the authors examined how speculative elements can illuminate contemporary realities, explore questions of identity and belonging, and deepen emotional truth in fiction. The conversation highlighted the versatility of the genre and its power to tell stories that resonate across cultures and generations.

During her visit to Hong Kong, Wangtechawat also visited Kowloon Walled City Park, the site where the historic Kowloon Walled City once stood. The location holds particular significance as one of the settings featured in The Moon Represents My Heart, offering the author a meaningful opportunity to revisit a place that had played an important role in the novel's world and history.

Wangtechawat's participation at the Hong Kong International Literary Festival reflected her continued engagement with readers and fellow writers across Asia, celebrating the enduring appeal of speculative fiction while exploring the universal themes of family, memory, and home that lie at the heart of her work.
